April 25, 2023 Hoffmann Hillermann Newsletter

Hello Friends,

Hopefully, we have had the last frost for this season. Luckily, it was not as cold as forecasted and we didn’t have a hard freeze. Temperatures that produce a frost or freeze can still happen into early May. So, be sure to watch the weather forecasts into mid-May.

There are several holidays to celebrate over the next few weeks. This week is Administrative Professionals Week. Be sure to show your secretaries or assistants how much you appreciate them. National Arbor Day is Friday, 4/28/23. Plant a tree to observe this holiday! If you have kids or grandkids, include them in this planting project and they can watch the tree grow over years to come. Cinco de Mayo is Friday, May 5, 2023. If you like to celebrate this fun holiday, you can plant a salsa garden while you enjoy a margarita. Teacher Appreciation Week is May 8-12, 2023. Show your appreciation to the teachers in your life. Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 14, 2023. Make Mom feel special with a gift of plants, flowers, décor or any of the many great gift ideas we have available. Mom can choose her own special gift with a Hoffmann Hillermann Gift Card. Visit us and shop our great selection, call us at 636-239-6729 or order online at www.hillermannflorist.com for these holidays.

Downy Woodpecker Favorites

The Downy Woodpecker can be identified by its white back, black nape, and black wings with white spotting. Another amusement on this species is its quick moves up and down the tree trunks. They are the most likely woodpecker species to visit a backyard bird feeder. They prefer suet feeders, but are also fond of black oil sunflower seeds, millet, peanuts and chunky peanut butter.

Blue Jay Favorites

This common, large songbird is familiar to many people, with beautiful variants of blue on its upperparts and white to whitish grey underparts, and a blue crest on the head that can be raised or lowered depending on the bird’s mood. Although blue jays can sometimes be aggressive toward other birds at feeding stations, bird watchers still enjoy their bright colors, clever feeding strategies and sassy attitude.
