November 7, 2023 Hoffmann Hillermann Newsletter

Hello Friends,

Happy Veterans Day this Saturday, November 11th! Thank you to all our Veterans for your service to our country. Freedom isn’t free, and we are grateful to all those who have served.

Our area continues to be low on rainfall. Click here for the US Drought Monitor map of Missouri. According to the map, most of our area is still in Moderate Drought conditions, and it shows Severe Drought conditions for the southwestern area of Franklin County. Be sure to water outdoor plants when you can through fall and winter, especially new plantings and evergreen plants. Plants need to receive enough water so they will not be too stressed when winter arrives. Additionally, moisture in the soil helps insulate and protect the plant’s roots through freezing temperatures.

Our EGO Equipment Rep will be here this Wednesday from 8:00 to 11:00. You can stop by to talk with him and demo EGO Battery Powered equipment. New and current units will be available. Stop by and see how powerful EGO units are. If you can’t make it to this event, stop by anytime to talk to Doug or Bill about lawn and garden equipment sales, parts and service.

Displays with Christmas trees and decorations are starting to go up in the Garden Center! They are beautiful! Our Garden Center will become a sparkling wonderland as more displays go up in time for our Holiday Open House. Visit us during our Holiday Open House on November 18 and 19 to see all the beautiful displays that will include a lot of holiday sparkle and twinkling lights! Check our Event Listings among the articles below.

Plant Trees Until The Ground Freezes!

“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The next best time is now.”
- Chinese Proverb

Even though many trees have dropped most of their leaves, it is still a good time to plant them. The roots can grow until the ground freezes and then again as the ground thaws in spring. This way, they will get a better start in spring and be better equipped to handle the hot, dry weather in summer.

Come see the great selection of trees that we have available. Let us help you choose a good variety for your location and needs. Enjoy the many benefits trees have to offer including beauty, shade and increased property value.

New Arrivals - Fall 2023

Fall items have been arriving weekly at Hoffmann Hillermann Nursery and Florist! We will be adding to this photo gallery through fall to show our New Arrivals. Stop by to see all the pretty, colorful items and get all you need for Fall Gardening and Decorating!

August 10, 2023 Hoffmann Hillermann Newsletter

Hello Friends,

Our area has received some much-needed rain lately. Hopefully, we will start to receive average amounts of rain on a regular basis. Just remember, once it has not rained for a few days, check the soil at the base of your plants for dryness and go back to a regular watering schedule when needed.

Plan your outdoor fall projects now so you will be ready to work on them as time and weather allows. Make a list of items and tools you will need. Start getting the tools and hard good supplies (blocks, pavers, rock) ready now. Then, as soon as you have a chance, you will be ready to get a good start. Take notice of the location(s) where you want to add new plants. Write down if it is next to or away from the house, what side of the house (North, South, etc.), the amount of sun exposure (how long, morning sun, afternoon sun, etc.), the soil type (clay, rich, sandy, etc.) and soil moisture/drainage information. With this information, we can help you by suggesting plants that will work best in that area.

Get ready to start the FALL season! The first shipment of fall vegetables just arrived today! Broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, swiss chard, cabbage and kale starter plants are all available in the Open Bay Greenhouse. A few fall flower varieties arrived also. Flower, vegetable and herb seeds are always available in our garden center.

Enjoy Your Yard & Gardens,
The Hoffmann Hillermann Team
